About
Push//Pull was premiered on November 12th, 2018 by Sylvan Talavera and Ancel Neeley at the University of Michigan.
The piece came about as a means to demonstrate the nature of how, as percussionists, we approach our instruments and performance. The first movement, Push, is riddled with large drums and fast, heavy movements eliciting the performers to push out the sound. Whereas in the second movement, Pull, the performers are encouraged to pull the sound out of the instruments figuratively and literally with the introduction of bows and wind chimes to the texture.
